Compliance to Palliative Care Among Patients with Stage V Chronic Kidney Disease.

Abstract

The study was conducted to determine the extent of compliance to palliative care among stage V chronic kidney disease patients as a basis to propose measures to enhance patient’s compliance. The descriptive research method was utilized in the study with the questionnaire as the primary tools used in obtaining the data. The salient findings of the study are as follows: (1) The compliance to palliative care among stage V chronic kidney disease patients as to their diet is moderate, while that on their fluid intake, medications and lifestyle modification is high; and (2) The degree of seriousness to hindrances on compliance to palliative care is moderately serious on the inadequacies of knowledge, personal factors and social factors while serious on the economic factor. The study concluded that the compliance to palliative care among patients with stage V chronic Kidney Disease vary. This variation signifies that compliance to palliative care is dependent on their understanding on the outcome of their compliance. Moreover, the patients encounter a variety of problems, the most serious of which is economic. Based on the findings of the study, measures to enhance compliance to palliative care are proposed.
