dc.description.abstract This study aimed to determine the extent of knowledge and degree of attitude of student nurses on teenage pregnancy in the City of San Fernando, La Union as a basis for making a primer in the prevention of teenage pregnancy. The subject of the study includes the population in all levels of student nurses in three different schools namely, Lorma Colleges, Union Christian College and Central Ilocandia College of Science and Technology. It was conducted during the second semester of S.Y. 2008 – 2009. A descriptive survey method was used. Random sampling was employed in selecting the study subjects. Results showed that the extent of knowledge of student nurses on the different variables is very highly knowledgeable. Moreover, the factors that affect the subject matter were found to have significant differences except for gender, civil status and highest educational attainment of the mother. On the degree of attitude of student nurses towards the different variables, it was found out that it is highly acceptable. Furthermore, there are significant differences on the student-related factors, parent related factors and family environment factors except for gender, civil status and highest educational attainment of both parents. In the light of the above findings, it is recommended that priority clients for the teaching primer on the prevention of teenage pregnancy are teenagers (not only student nurses) in educational institutions and communities. A similar study can be done by future young nursing researchers who will become advocates and in the future will also take care and handle adolescents. en_US
