The study determined the level of pain assessment and pain management competencies of staff nurses in selected tertiary hospitals of the City of San Fernando, La Union namely Lorma Medical Center, !locos Training and Regional Medical Center and Bethany Hospital. The descriptive type of research was applied in this study; the researcher documented 205 staff nurses. The researcher included 84 patients who participated in the data gathering.

This study dealt with the policies, procedures and guidelines governing the affiliation and training of nursing students in Level 2 hospitals to ensure a truly effective educational program and provision of learning experiences for nursing students designed to prepare and produce graduates who are responsive to the needs of Philippine society. The research design used was a descriptive method using the questionnaire checklist type as the main tool in gathering the data with the three point Likert scale as rubric.
